Natural gas pipelines are the nation's safest method of transporting energy, quietly delivering large volumes of the clean-burning fuel to local natural gas distribution companies, who ultimately carry the gas to your homes and businesses. While our safety record is exceptional, it's important for everyone who lives and works near natural gas pipelines to know basic safety information.

The natural gas pipeline industry invests millions of dollars each year in maintenance and construction programs, facilities testing, research, emergency training and public information to ensure safety and reliability of natural gas and oil delivery systems. But, we still need your help.

Bitter Creek Pipelines operates over 1,900 miles of natural gas pipelines, along with 88 owned or leased compressor stations in three main areas: Northeast Montana; Northeast Colorado and the Powder River Basin.

The number one cause of pipeline accidents or problems is third party damage caused by digging.  We need your help in keeping the right-of-way clear of structures, trees, or any suspicious activity for effective surveillance of the pipeline.  We ask you to become familiar with the potential hazards and information on how to prevent pipeline problems and to report any concerns.  Again our safety record indicates it is unlikely you will ever experience any pipeline problems; however, if you notice any suspicious activity at or near our pipelines, valves, or compressor stations, or if you suspect a leak please call (888) 859-7291 immediately!

The following information will assist you in identification of our underground pipeline system, recognizing the signs of a leak, knowing what to do if you suspect a leak, and most importantly, knowing what  to do if you need to dig.
